How does the design process work?

Step 1: How do we start? If you're a new client, we'll start with a meeting, either in person or by phone. We have found that asking good questions and listening carefully makes it easier to create great work that answers our clients' needs.

Step 2: What will it cost? Zurek Design will estimate your job based on the information gathered from our initial contact. Complex jobs will be accompanied by a production schedule that will outline all phases of the project, including deadlines for each stage.

For more information on how we estimate our work, read here.

Step 3: Then what? After an estimate is accepted, we assemble teams of professionals who are selected to meet the needs of each client's project. These teams might include one or more designers, a writer, a photographer, a public relations professional, a printer, a sign company, a web site development firm or an Internet hosting service.

We listen to you first, then work to build a team, so you can be assured that the people working on your project will get the job done right.

Step 4: When and how will I see your ideas? Each project is unique, and often information must be gathered before designs can be presented, but we usually submit our first layout ideas about a week after we've received all the information needed to create a design.

We have a variety of ways of showing you our work. Designs can be emailed, posted on a private web page, uploaded to an FTP site or printed and mailed. Email and web postings are fastest, of course!

Step 5: How does it wrap up? Once you are completely satisfied, we take whatever step is necessary to bring your job to completion. That might mean preparing it for a printer, uploading it to a web site, or creating various formats for logo files. It might mean sending your ad to a publication, or your art to a billboard company. Whatever it takes, we'll make sure your final design gets where it needs to be, and we'll be there to respond to any questions that come up during production.

Billing: Existing clients are billed on project completion and bills are payable within 15 days of receipt. For more information on billing, read here.

You own your work. Zurek Design gives you rights to all final artwork we produce for you once it's paid for, so you can reuse it as many times as you'd like. We keep electronic archives of our design projects, so if you need a design that we produced for you in the past, we're happy to resend it to you.

How does Zurek Design charge and bill?

How do you charge for your work? Every design job is different, so the first thing we do is talk to you and understand what you need.

Based on the information we gather from our conversations, we estimate a project price. Because we've been working in this field for over 20 years, we know lots of ways to save money on your printing costs and web site development.

If the specifications of your project change, we will re-estimate the job and wait for your approval before we proceed.

How do you bill for your work? New clients are billed 50% of the estimated project price up front. The remaining 50% is billed on project completion. Existing clients are billed on project completion. We accept payments by check, and can accept (with advanced notice) payment through PayPal.com, which allows you to pay with a credit or debit card.

How do you design logos?

Will my logo be able to be used in both print and web work? Yes! We design logos using Adobe Illustrator, the industry leader for vector-based artwork. Vector-based logos have the advantage of scalability: they can be used very small, or blown up larger than a billboard without losing any detail. You will receive the vector-based files when we finalize your logo, as well as numerous versions of the logo that are ready for print and web applications.

How will you give me my final logo files? Once you are completely satisfied, we will create all the versions of your logo, package it together in clearly labeled electronic folders and can either email the art to you, upload it to a secure web page or FTP site, or burn the art to a CD and mail it to you.

How can I protect my business name? Different laws govern the protection of your business name depending on what state or country your business is based in. We recommend that businesses consult with a lawyer for advice on protecting a business name.

Can I work with you long distance?

Do you work long distance? Absolutely! About half of our clients are out of state, or out of the country. We have clients here in Pennsylvania, and others in New Jersey, New Hampshire, Florida, California, Arizona and Vancouver, Canada. Our clients' businesses are local, national and international in scope.

How will we communicate? Our initial meeting can be in person, or by phone. Email and even instant messaging make communication fast and easy. We will email our design ideas to you, or can post them to a secure web site.

Once your project is complete, we can either email the final art to you, upload it to a secure web page or FTP site, or burn the art to a CD and mail it to you. We can also email files to the printer of your choice. We stand behind our artwork and will provide follow up support with whatever vendor is producing your final product.

Will you print my job?

We create final, print-ready artwork and can help you to locate a suitable printer. If you are outside of our local area, the most practical solution is to work with a printer who is local to your area: delivery costs are reduced, and proofing is easier. There are also online printing companies that might meet your needs: talk to us and we can walk you through the process.
